Toowoomba Hospital, QLD
Multiple modular clinical infrastructure units configured to create a 12-bed ward in a short timeframe
Background
The infrastructure at Toowoomba Hospital is operating at capacity in a number of areas, and the hospital faces extended emergency department waiting times, emergency department overcrowding and adverse impacts on care offered. Forecast demand, driven by a growing and ageing population and high levels of chronic disease, is expected to place further pressure on the hospital.
The hospital wished to add capacity quickly through a 12-bed ward. Aspen Medical’s modular clinical infrastructure units provided a pre-fabricated solution built off site thereby reducing the disruption and noise that would normally be associated with a conventional build. From final design sign off, it took 15 weeks to construct and deploy the units to Toowoomba Hospital. The installation time on site was minimal, being two weeks. The Aspen Medical solution is compliant to class 9A building standards.
The build includes:
- standard and disabled ensuites
- nurse station
- secure medication room
- pan room and washer
- all gasses on board
- links to Toowoomba Hospital for emergency alarms and data connections.
Challenges
- tight deadline from design through to installation
- maintain high standard against a tight time frame.
